On Tuesday last our team of boys from 5th and 6th class went to Carrigtwohill to represent the school in the FAI Primary 5’s Soccer Tournament. We started off in a group of 4 teams taking on the likes of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál (Clondulane NS), Scoil Chroinín and near neighbours Kilmagner NS. 1 draw and 2 wins was enough to see us progress as winners of our group and a place in the semi finals awaited.
The whole squad had played a huge role in the group stages, each bringing a different set of skills and determination that was needed with a quick turnaround in the games.
The semi final brought a battle with the host school of Carrigtwohill. The lads put on one of their best performances of the tournament and you could see the confidence running through the team at this stage. A decisive win sent the team through to the final to face Ballintotas NS.
The final like most finals was a cagey affair. Neither side giving an inch of space and afraid to concede. Luckily a piece of individual brilliance meshed with some solid defensive play gave our lads a 1-0 win and the title of champions!!
The boys did themselves and the school very proud with both their performances on the field and also their manners and sportsmanship throughout. They will now go onto the next stage in Musgrave Park at a date to be confirmed. Maith sibh a bhuachaillií!!
