Soccer with Allen Cotter

We were very lucky that during ASW Allen Cotter (Parent & Member of Castlebridge FC) gave up his time to come into school and give a soccer training session to Rang 1&2. Bhain siad taitneamh as sin!

ASW 2024 Sports Takeover

As the name suggests we had a ‘Sports Takeover’ on the yard for Juniors, Seniors, Rang 1&2 in the morning and for Rang 3/4/5/6 in the afternoon on both Wednesday and Thursday. Parachute games, Obstacle courses, Dodgeball, Soccer, Hoola Hoola Challenges, Uni-hoc and Tag Rugby games were all seen on the yard and a great time was had by all.

Synchro Bounce Dance & Hoola Hoop Fun

Unfortunately due to the wet weather conditions during ASW we had to resort to Plan B. Fortunately Plan B turned out to be a whole lot of fun. We decided to try Synchro Bounce Dance which was a challenge but we had great fun trying it out and we spotted some serious talent in every class. The infant classes tried out a number of different hoola hoop activities. There were hoola spinning in all directions, they loved it!

Active School Walkway

Thanks to the tremendous work of our caretaker John McCarthy our Active School walkway has been launched. It is a huge asset to our school and has been used in so many different ways already – sports, movement, mindfulness, orienteering, maths, English. We can’t wait to see what else we can do with it in the future. It is inclusive and accessible to everyone. It has allowed us to appreciate the beauty of the grounds of our school and garden areas, as much of this area was previously out of bounds. It also gives us an opportunity to admire the biodiversity of our school environment. We can’t wait to make it part of our school routine next year!

Pitch & Putt

As part of ASW we wanted to give pupils the opportunity to take part in different activities within our local community. Our local Pitch & Putt club were only too happy to oblige. Rang 3 spent an enjoyable afternoon learning some new skills and discovering some hidden talents. We are very grateful to all at Castlelyons Pitch & Putt club for giving us the opportunity.

#ASW24 Pupil V Staff Competitions

A brilliant time was had by all on the final day of ASW. The excitement had been building all week for our Pupils V Staff competitions.
Junior Infants, Senior Infants and Rang 1 all took part in a penalty shoot out against their respective class teachers and Principal Mr de Róiste.
Rang 2 played Tic Tac Toe against the staff
Rang 3 enjoyed a spirited game of Basketball.
Rang 4 proved tough opponents for the staff and this ended up in a penalty shoot out.
Rang 5 & Rang 6 challenged staff to a fast paced game of Dodgeball.
It was a fantastic day and the staff were wrecked after all their games!

Whole School Fitness Session 2024

We were so lucky to have local gym instructors Pat & Christine Goulding from Hive Fitness Rathcormac available to give a whole school workout session during ASW. Their energy and enthusiasm was contagious and pupils loved their workout with them. It was a great experience for everyone.

Wake Up Shake Up

We began each morning of ASW with ‘Wake Up Shake Up’. Due to unfavourable weather conditions some mornings this was a mix of indoor and outdoor sessions. However that did not dampen our spirits or enthusiasm. It was a fun and energetic way to wake us up and start each day!

Bike Wizard 2024

One of our first and possible most popular #ASW24 activities was the Bike Wizard. Pupils learned some bike safety tips, fun cycling skills and had a great time doing some cycling games. The Bike Wizard focused on fundamental movement skills within each session too. The pupils loved this experience.
